Looking for Seasonal Fisheries Field Technicians

Up to $30 per hour

The Scw’exmx Tribal Council’s Fisheries Department, the Nicola Watershed Stewardship and Fisheries Authority (NWSFA), is looking to hire field technicians for the summer (up to 4 positions) and/or fall (up to 8 positions) of 2025 to assist with fish habitat assessments, and Chinook and Coho stock assessment activities. We are looking for candidates with a strong interest in fisheries science and who are willing to work long days on the river in challenging conditions. The position(s) will be based out of Merritt, BC

Job Description: up to 8-hour field days Monday to Friday(summer work); day, evening, night, and weekend work (fall work).

· Collect fish and fish habitat data (summer)

· Daily walks (dead pitch) recovering chinook carcasses and conducting biological sampling (fall)

· Coho trap and fence operations with biological sampling (fall)

· Other fish and fish habitat related tasks as directed by the NWSFA Program Manager and NWSFA Fisheries Biologist

Skills and Qualifications:

· Partially or fully completed degree or diploma in natural resource sciences, and/or experience in the field of fisheries

· Fish identification skills

· Computer skills, especially the use of iPads

· Safety focused, eager to learn, good communication skills, able to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team

· Able to walk long distances (up to 12 km), move gear and equipment up to 50lbs, handle adverse weather conditions such as heat, rain and snow

· Valid Class 5 driver’s license (clean Driver’s Abstract will be required)

Additional skills and certifications (preferred):

· Experience conducting fish and fish habitat assessments

· Valid backpack electrofishing certificate

· Swift Water Rescue training

· Level 1 First Aid

· Experience using and maintaining field equipment

Start Date: June 2025 End Date: November 30, 2025 (weather dependent)

Seasonal employment will be available in 3 options:

· 6-month term from June till the end of November (weather dependent)

· 3-month term from June till the end of August

· 3-month term from September till the end of November (weather dependent)
